What is Gambling?

December 18th, 2008

Gambling is defined as betting or wagering for self or for others. Gambling takes place if two or more people, usually an operator and the person who wishes to gamble, agree to take part in an activity that involves the risking of money or valuables on the outcome of a game, contest, or other event. But for some people, gambling is done simply for fun and recreation. There are also studies showing that many people do participate in gambling to gain income.

Gambling maybe buying instant lottery tickets, playing the on-line or video lottery games, playing cards, dice, or dominoes, playing in casinos, playing slot machines, betting on sporting events, betting on the horses or greyhounds, betting on games of skill such as bowling, pool, golf, video or arcade games, and many other activities.

Gamble money that you can afford to loose so that whenever you lose, it is no big deal. You will just move to other gambling or non- gambling activities. There are some cases that gambling becomes a problem and incontrollable, which can destroy families, friendships, finances and hopes, and for some, even life itself.
